Vocal Music Department

The Lincoln High School Vocal Music Department offers many opportunities for students to participate in various choral activities, including our non-auditioned core choirs, and our auditioned Chamber Choir, Show Choir, and Jazz Choir. 

 

Core/Curricular Choirs

Chamber Choir is open to students in grades ten through twelve by audition. In this highly selective group, students will study and perform collegiate-level repertoire while extending and deepening their knowledge and understanding of choral music, music theory, and vocal technique. Chamber Choir members will prepare to audition for the Iowa All State Chorus, participate in many community and school performances, tour around the Des Moines area, compete across the state of Iowa, and have many other performance opportunities throughout the year.  Block 6

 

Concert Choir is open to students in grades ten through twelve, no audition required. In this mixed ensemble, students will study and perform repertoire of varying styles, historical periods, and languages while building and understanding of vocal technique and choral singing. The course will have emphasis on sight-singing and rehearsal technique. Performances throughout the year include four evening concerts, State Large Group Contest, and other various school and community performances.  Block 7

 

Treble Choir is open to students in grades ten through twelve, no audition required. In this ensemble of women, students will study and perform repertoire of varying styles, historical periods, and languages while building and understanding of vocal technique and choral singing. The course will have emphasis on sight-singing and rehearsal technique. Performances throughout the year include four evening concerts, State Large Group Contest, and other various school and community performances.  Block 1

 

RAILS Bass Choir is open to students in grade nine at the Lincoln RAILS Academy building, no audition required. In this ensemble of men, students will study and perform repertoire of varying styles, historical periods, and languages while building and understanding of vocal technique and choral singing. The course will have emphasis on sight-singing and rehearsal technique. Performances throughout the year include three evening concerts, State Large Group Contest, and other various school and community performances.  Block 3

 

RAILS Treble Choir is open to students in grade nine at the Lincoln Rails Academy building, no audition required. In this ensemble of women, students will study and perform repertoire of varying styles, historical periods, and languages while building and understanding of vocal technique and choral singing. The course will have emphasis on sight-singing and rehearsal technique. Performances throughout the year include four evening concerts, State Large Group Contest, and other various school and community performances.  Blocks 1, 2

 

Show Choir and Jazz Choir

Show Choir is open to students in grades nine through twelve by audition. In these highly competitive groups, students focus on choral arrangements of popular, jazz, and musical theater literature. Emphasis is on vocal technique, style, and choreography appropriate to this repertoire. Infinity Varsity and Omega JV perform in multiple Lincoln shows, and four competitions during their January through March competition season. Infinity has been a Lincoln show choir for 43 years and will continue the competitive tradition for years to come.  Block 8

 

Jazz Choir is open to students in grades nine through twelve by audition. This competitive ensemble is a select group of sixteen singers who will study and perform the unique style of vocal jazz in many shows, community events, contests, and competitions throughout the state. Members of Jazz Choir music also be enrolled in a co-curricular choir. Lincoln Jazz Choir has just finished its debut season.  Extracurricular
